Hunter Goodman hit two home runs to lift the visiting Colorado Rockies to a 6-4 win over the Miami Marlins Monday.
Colorado, which Sunday became the first team in the modern era of baseball (since 1901) to lose 50 games before winning 10, improved to 10-50.
The Rockies ended an eight-game losing streak, their fourth eight-game losing streak of the season. They have not had a nine-game losing streak. Colorado has lost 19 straight series to start the season.
German Marquez (2-7) picked up the win for Colorado, giving up nine hits and four runs in five innings. The right-hander walked two and struck out six on 93 pitches.
Zach Agnos pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.
Goodman, who had the third multi-home run game of his career, went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
The Rockies took the lead in the fifth when Ezequiel Tovar singled to lead off and Goodman deposited the first pitch he saw in the center-field bleachers for a 5-4 Rockies lead.
Max Meyer (4-5) took the loss for the Marlins giving up five runs and 10 hits in five innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out five on 77 pitches.
The Marlins looked like they were going to cruise after scoring four runs in the first two innings.
Xavier Edwards walked to start the game and Jesus Sanchez hit a ground-rule double to right-center. Edwards scored when Agustin Ramirez hit a grounder to third and Orlando Arcia’s throw to the plate was late.
Otto Lopez singled in Sanchez and Eric Wagaman scored Ramirez on a sacrifice fly for a 3-1 Marlins lead.
Kiam Hicks led off the second with one of Miami’s six doubles and scored on a two-out double by Sanchez for a 4-1 Miami lead.
Goodman, who had scored on a double by Thairo Estrada in the top of the first, cut Miami’s lead in half with a two-out home run in the third.
Colorado manufactured a run in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3. Brenton Doyle singled to lead off, went to second on a ground out and to third on a fly out to right. Tyler Freeman sent him home with a single.
